PSYCHOLOGICAL MODELS AND TREATMENTS OF PERSONALITY DISORDERS

During my stay at the NIAS I contributed to 29 articles for refereed journals, either as first author, senior author, or co-author, as well as 5 chapters in edited books. The vast majority of these focused on personality disorders, the main focus of my stay at NIAS. Other topics included depression and PTSD. Together with Gitta Jacobs I published two books on an innovative psychological treatment of personality disorders, Schema Therapy. Based on intensive studying neuroscientific research of borderline personality disorder, I submitted an advanced ERC grant aiming to assess fundamental changes in this disorder brought about by psychological treatment. Important aspects of the proposal were inspired by discussions with other NIAS Fellows. In collaboration with other NIAS Fellows I set up four projects, varying from the study of dominance in psychopathy to differences in language use between personality disorder and high-functioning autistic patients. The collaborations will continue the coming years.
