Astrid Erll, born in Dernbach-Westerwald, Germany, in 1972. Ph.D. from the Justus Liebig University Gießen. Professor of English Literature and Culture at the University of Wuppertal.

Fellow (1 September 2009 - 30 June 2010)

TRANSCULTURAL MEMORIES: GENERATIONALITY AND SPACES OF REMEMBRANCE IN ANGLOPHONE LITERATURES AND MEDIA CULTURES - CARIBBEAN, INDIAN AND BRITISH CONSTELLATIONS

Most of my stay at NIAS was devoted to the translation, updating, thorough rewriting and extension of my German introduction to memory studies, Kollektives Gedächtnis und Erinnerungskulturen (Stuttgart: Metzler, 2005), which will appear under the title Memory in Culture with Palgrave Macmillan in 2011. Moreover, I have designed a project on transcultural memory and the remediations of the Odyssey. With members of the ‘memory group’ and the nucleus on the Reception of Netherlandish art in Asia, I could establish valuable inter-disciplinary and international contacts, some of which have already led to joint conferences, publications and proposals for funding
