RHETORICAL CONTEXT OF FRIENDSHIP: DERRIDA, DE MAN AND J.H. MILLER

During my three-month project I worked on my third book about the ‘textual friendship’ of Jacques Derrida, Paul de Man, and Joseph Hillis Miller entitled Impossible Singularities. The first paper was intended to discuss the questions of memory, mourning, and fidelity in the three writers’ works, but it eventually turned out to focus heavily on mourning. The other paper that I was working on was about the topics of trauma, promise, and friendship; I collected material and took notes to write the paper entitled “In the Name of Friendship”. I am very grateful for having been given the opportunity to work at NIAS whose great research facilities have allowed me to collect enough material to complete my book. Moreover, I received interesting impulses from the seminars and talks that will be beneficial to my future projects.
