Wouter van der Brug, born in Bussum, the Netherlands, in 1963. Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam. Assistant Professor in Social Science Research Methods at the University of Amsterdam.

Fellow (1 September 2005 - 30 June 2006)

ECONOMIC NEWS, PUBLIC EVALUATIONS OF THE ECONOMY AND THE VOTE: A STUDY OF ENLARGED EUROPE.

My academic year at NIAS has probably been my most productive year in terms of research output so far. At NIAS I worked on various topics, such as (effects of) economic news, news priming, voting for anti-immigration parties and declining political trust. All together, I worked on eight different journal articles, which are currently in different stages of publication. One has recently appeared in print, three have been revised and resubmitted, and four have been submitted and are awaiting the referees' and editors' comments. Three book chapters were co-authored and published. In addition, I completed the work on two books at NIAS, and both will be published in the spring of 2007 by Cambridge University Press and University of Notre Dame Press. Finally, six conference papers were prepared and presented, and all of these have now been revised and submitted to journals or edited volumes. This productivity is in large part due to my NIAS-fellowship, which provided me with extra time to do research, and gave me the possibility to benefit from the inspiring environment at NIAS and the support of its competent and supportive staff.
