Fellow (1 February 2004 - 30 June 2004)
During my time at NIAS I wrote two articles, which are both accepted for publication, namely, "A double diamond of judgment; a strand in the development of logic 1837-1936", forthcoming in "Dialectica; and "'Wishful Thinking'. Grondslagentheoretische programma's voor Gödel, forthcoming in Wijsgerig Perspectief. I also organized two international workshops at Leiden University: The Philosophy of Constructive Type Theory, February 6, 2004, on the occasion of the honorary doctorate of Prof. Per Martin-Löf, Stockholm (when I also served as the Honorary Doktorvater); and Two Days of Truth, May 14-15, 2004. At both I also gave lectures.
In the period between my application and the moment of actually taking up the fellowship in February I received five invitations to reasonably prestigious international conferences, but had, owing to Deanship of the Philosophy Faculty at Leiden in which I then served, no time to work for preparing of the lectures in question. The book projects that were mentioned in my application, on the other hand, constitute the working out of ideas already conceived, and it seemed more appropriate to use the relatively unencumbered situation at NIAS for working on new things. Accordingly, after due consultation with the Rector, I spent most of my working time on preparing the five lectures in question (of which three will most probably be published):
"Truth-value", International conference LOGICA 2004, Department of Logic, Philosophical Institute, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, at Heijnice Monastery, June 21-25, 2004;
"Constructive Truth-Making", International workshop Inference and Meaning, Melbourne, July 12-14, 2004;
"The Metalinguistic Turn", European Summer Meeting of the Association for Symbolic Logic, Turin, July 21-26, 2004;
"The Metamathematical Turn", International workshop Philosophy of Mathematics, Uppsala August 26-29, 2004;
and "Lesniewski's Treatment of Intentional Contexts", Logic, Ontology, Aesthetics: The Golden Age of Polish Philosophy, International workshop at Montreal September 24-26, 2004.
