Brown, K.

Kenneth Brown

Kenneth Brown, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1949. Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. Professor of Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Calgary.

Fellow (1 September 2001 - 30 June 2002)

During the period of the NIAS Fellowship, I completed a major book-length study on Spanish-Jewish or Sephardic poetry written in Rouen, France, but which circulated widely in The Seven Northern Provinces during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; one short article on the Sephardic manuscript collection in The Royal Library (The Hague) and one book review. Also, I edited one essay on German-Dutch poetic anthologies. I also have discovered and collected enough new materials for two critical editions of Sephardic and traditional Spanish Baroque poetry. In addition to the short pieces, I now have enough information to complete three articles and one book review this summer. And, finally, I presented six lectures in three different languages (English, Spanish and Catalan), in the Netherlands and in Spain, and have been gathering information for a new lecture, on the connection between Rembrandt and Sephardic Baroque poetry.
