Ziegler, R.

Rolf Ziegler

Rolf Ziegler, born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1936. Ph.D. from the University of Cologne. Professor of Economics and Sociology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

Fellow (1 February 1990 - 30 June 1990)

I have drafted four papers during my semester here. The first analyzes the mortality rates in the West-German brewing industry over a period of 110 years using a population ecology perspective. The second on "Market, Power, and Cooptation". The third paper reports results of recent German studies about some of the causes of the extremely long length of studying and discusses possible effects of several measures being suggested in public debate. Fourthly, at at conference at Utrecht University, I discussed the empirical evidence in favour of a halt or even a reversal of the long-term decline of small enterprises and self-employment in Western industrialized countries and dealt with some paradoxes and dilemmata between short- and long-term consequences of technological innovation.
