Bruijn, J.R.

Jacobus Bruijn

Jaap Bruijn, born in 1938. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Professor of Maritime History at Leiden University.

Fellow (1 February 1990 - 30 June 1990)

I completed two main pieces of work during my stay at the NIAS. Firstly, I wrote a short biography of the Dutch naval officer and minister of the navy Julius Constantijn Rijk (1787-1854). My major objective was the writing of a considerable study of the history of the Dutch navy during the 17th and 18th centuries, in English.
