Cees Fasseur, born in Balikpapan, Indonesia, in 1938. Ph.D. from Leiden University. Professor of South-East Asian History at Leiden University.

I came to NIAS to write a monograph on the decline of the cultivation system in Java during the 1860s. I also contributed to the study of the late colonial state in Indonesia with a long essay on the thorny issue of racial classification and Dutch colonial ideology in Indonesia.
