Mission Statement

NIAS is a dynamic, highly flexible (granting) organization with an international and interdisciplinary focus. It plays an important role in facilitating and stimulating innovative (Dutch) top research within the Humanities and the Social Sciences and at the interface with other disciplines. NIAS offers residential fellowships to selected individual scholars and research groups from all over the world, and hosts small international workshops and debates. An increasing number of individual fellowships is co-sponsored by public and private institutions and organisations. NIAS is member of two international networks of sister Institutes of Advanced Study, including Berlin, Uppsala, Princeton and Harvard, among others.
